MANSFIELD – If Virginia Tech ruins Saturday night's home opener for the Ohio State football team — something that hasn't happened since 1978 — blame Mike Gottfried.
It was Gottfried, the Crestline native and rebuilder of several college programs, who as head coach at Murray State "discovered" Frank Beamer.
Actually, it was Loudonville native Ron Zook, erstwhile head coach at Florida and Illinois and current special teams coach for the Green Bay Packers, who recruited Beamer to Gottfried's coaching staff at Murray State.
